The All Nations Evangelism Ministry has thrown its weight behind President Donald Trumps led American Government’s decision to place Nigeria under Country of Peculiar Concern (CPC).
Briefing journalists on resolutions of the ministry’s synod contained in a communique at the end of its Fresh Oil International Convention held weekend at the Aper Aku stadium Makurdi, General Overseer of the ministry, Archbishop Yimam Orkwar, said the meeting described America’s decision by all intents and purposes a positive development for Nigeria, especially at this stage and in the face of flagrant human rights abuses, violent crimes and general insecurity.
Synod warned that instead of trivializing the offer by the American Government to assist Nigeria out of the current security situation which bedeviled the country about 20 years, the federal government should rather seek greater cooperation with the United States Government, suggesting that the federal government do more in the fight against terrorism, insecurity and right violation.
The All Nations Evangelism Ministry’s synod considers as very disturbing the conflicting views of the Church on the issue of genocide in Nigeria, particularly in relation to the on going violence in the North Central, North- East and the North – West, lamenting the disappointing level of disunity and politics experienced in the Nigerian church at a time the church should be one and noted that such division should not be allowed to override the interest of the body of Christ.
ANEM synod affirmed in unequivocal terms that there is genocide against Christians in Nigeria and called on the United States under the leadership of President Donald Trump to collaborate with the Nigerian Government to as a matter of urgency address the situation adequately.
The communique frowned at the Northern Governors Forum recent initiative to pursue a regional arrangement to combat terrorism by contributing N1b, arguing that the idea might appear lofty and promising but may face challenges at the implementation stage therefore, should be carefully scrutinized and examined.
Synod joined Northern Christians and other well- meaning Nigerians in commending the president over the recent appointment of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. General, Christopher Musa (Rtd) as the Defence Minister, expressing optimism that his assumption of duty would strengthen defence operations in the Nation and pursue reforms aimed at improving national security.
The communique called on Government at all levels to beef up security to protect lives and property across the nation as the people approach Christmas and new year, advising security agencies to ensure that the environment is secured for the holidays and Christmas celebrations.
Synod urged Christian faithful who are not registered voters across the country to take advantage of the opportunity created by INEC to register at the various Continuous Voter Registration Centres nearest to them as the exercise would be suspended December 10.
