The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), in Uburu, Ebonyi State, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, has dismissed recent claims of an administrative rift within the institution, describing the reports as false and misleading.
Speaking with journalists on the university campus, Shittu emphasized that there was no crisis between the Governing Council and university management, and that the institution continues to operate smoothly and focus on its academic mandate.
“I have no complaint against anybody and nobody has sidelined me. Such claims are baseless, and my decades of experience in public service make such a situation unlikely.”
He highlighted that DUFUHS currently offers 17 medical courses and maintains a stable academic environment, with students and staff operating without disruption.
Shittu urged the media and the public to disregard negative reports, describing them as attempts by unnamed individuals to create unnecessary tension.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Jesse Uneke, confirmed that the council was on campus for its statutory meeting, countering reports suggesting dysfunction.
“As you can see, the council is meeting. Any suggestion that it is not working is not correct,” he said, adding that the university remains stable both academically and administratively.

He further noted that ongoing infrastructural development in the institution reflects the effective oversight of the council and encouraged stakeholders to verify information through official channels rather than relying on unconfirmed reports.
Also weighing in, council member Barrister Saliou Bamideli Aluko reaffirmed that the council operates independently and conducts meetings in line with established procedures, describing allegations that the council had been hijacked as untrue.
A representative of the Federal Ministry of Education on the council, Paul Okpe, dismissed the claims, stating that the council and management work harmoniously and that the reports of crisis were unfounded.
The university management reiterated its commitment to transparency and encouraged stakeholders to seek clarification through official channels, assuring that DUFUHS remains focused on providing quality medical education in a stable environment.
