A total of over one thousand orphans, widows and divorcees in Kebbi State have benefited from welfare package of Kebbi state branch of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN).
The state Amira, Hajia Hauwau Abubakar Zaki Danshame said that the welfare package was given in form of grants to orphans, widows and divorcees at the lower ebb of the society to find a sound footing for themselves while the orphans will cease to feel the absence of their lost parents.
She explained that orphans of school-going age were also enrolled in school from primary schools up to tertiary level of education in order to impact the society and not to engage in social vices such as drugs addiction and prostitution.
The state Amira further said in addition to what FOMWAN is doing, they as well marry-off divorcees, widows and female orphans who attain the age of marriage by buying house furniture for them and start-up capital to support their husbands.
On the funding of the association’s activities, she said Kebbi governor’s wives, Hajia Zainab Nasare Idris and her co- wife Hajia Nafisa are among the key sponsors even as Dutsin Mari commissioner for local governments and chieftaincy affairs has been a regular sponsor of such programmes like stopping female almajiris from begging and other functions of the association.
She maintained that over 20 female almajiris were taken of the streets vie a mop-up operations to ensure all female almajiris are no longer begging on the streets because of its dangers.
