Motorists in Sokoto groan as marketers sell petrol above approved rate

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Motorists in Sokoto State are currently facing serious hardship as the independent fuel marketers have hiked their pump price to about N800 per litre.

In neighbouring states the owners of filling stations complied with tthe official pump price, but reversed is the case with Sokoto marketers.

A commuter who spoke with NationsPride in Sokoto said the situation is adding more problems as the cost of transportation from one place to another is now above the reach of a common man.

The prevailing fuel scarcity has also worsened as some marketers were alleged to have hoarded the product thereby leading to scarcity and causing long queues in few filling stations that dispensed the product.

A commercial motorcyclist who declined to be named said there are over 100 filling stations within the state metropolis but that presently less than 30 of them sell fuel despite information they have adequate fuel.
