On his first day in office as Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi pledged to address all unresolved issues with Nigeria’s labour unions, including recent “soft threats.”
The Minister was speaking in Abuja where Dingyadi assured union leaders, ministry staff, and heads of associated agencies that he would work collaboratively to foster peace and improve workers’ welfare.
He acknowledged outstanding matters with university-based unions over salaries and other benefits, some of which have been partly addressed by the government, with other issues still pending. Dingyadi assured that his administration would prioritize the resolution of these remaining concerns.
“Together, we will tackle all pending issues,” he said, noting that harmony between workers, employers, and labour unions is essential. He emphasized that the ministry’s role extends beyond mere reconciliation, aiming to ensure fair employment, productivity, and empowerment opportunities.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha pledged her support, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by enhancing employment opportunities and productivity.
Dingyadi called on all staff to work diligently, affirming the ministry’s goals to achieve harmony in labour relations and deliver positive outcomes for Nigerian workers.
