Kebbi State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on Saturday described as ill-fated, unwarranted and ill-informed comments by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the recent implementation of seventy five thousand minimum wage for local governments employees and staffers of local governments education authorities by Kebbi state government.
The organised labour, in a statement signed by the branch chairman, Comrade Murtala Usman, chided the opposition for turning into agents of destruction instead of opposition as they have deviated from constructive criticism to personal attack on government and the union.
He described as sabotage and obnoxious the statement by PDP describing the implementation of minimum wage for workers in local councils as mere statement not action.
“Such statement clearly shows that the opposition is not following events and lacks the knowledge on the method used to implement minimum in LGAs and LGEAs in the state.
“To put the record straight, no state in the country swiftly implements minimum wage for both state workers and local councils like Kebbi state, saying the union is aware of states who implemented minimum wage without local governments but Governor Nasir Idris being a former unionist included them having known the importance of local councils and the role they play in bringing dividends of democracy to the grassroots”.
He, however, added that to say the organised labour in Kebbi state is holding brief on the issue of minimum wage for local governments is to say the least the height of irresponsibility.
Recall that the opposition PDP in a statement recently berated the NLC and Kebbi state government over allegations of compromise on minimum wage implementations for local governments staffers and LGEAs in Kebbi state.
