Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Benue State Council, Comrade, Michael Vembe has pledged to sustain the tempo of his administration by prioritizing welfare of the senior citizens if given opportunity to serve the union for a second term.
The NUP chairman made the pledge at the weekend when he met with Zone A delegates at Lessel in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State ahead of the election slated for February 8.
He said as one whose tenure has witnessed tremendous improvement especially the consideration given to pensioners by Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration in payment of monthly pensions and other welfare packages, he was optimistic that if given the mandate to lead the union for a second term, he would continue to work harmoniously with the state government in the interest of pensioners in the state.
Comrade Vembe while calling on support from delegates, assured that he would work towards attracting more welfare packages to members as well as carry along all members in managing affairs of the union.
Speaking on behalf of NUP Zone A delegates, Comrades Moses Akade, Joseph Tingir and Vincent Hembaor all said they have endorsed the incumbent, Comrade Vembe for a second term because of his effective leadership.
They also explained that allowing Comrade Vembe from Zone B return back to the office as chairman was for justice and fair play, pointing out that Zone A had occupied the office for nine years.
“It is only right to allow Comrade Michael Vembe from Zone B to also serve the union for eight years.”
The delegates insisted, arguing that the position could only move to another zone of the state after the incumbent might complete his tenure.
