Ahead of the scheduled by-election in Guma state constituency next month, Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has ordered immediate suspension of the All Progressives Congress, APC, delegate primaries and other processes expected to take place in the Local Government Area over security threats.
Governor Alia who made the disclosure yesterday during a press conference held at the old banquet hall of government house Makurdi, said he decided to step into avoid breach of peace, pointing out that the exercise pulsed a threat to security of lives and property of the people in the area.
The governor accompanied by all heads of security agencies in the state, expressed displeasure why the APC delegate primary election expected to be rancour-free was characterised by irregularities, explaining that he decided to intervene to avoid another bloodshade especially that Guma local government area is a crisis prone area.
He further told journalists that electorate had trouped out in their numbers to the venue of the exercise to perform their civic responsibility, but were harassed and stopped at the gate, pointing out that it was equally discovered that some people who were not indigenes of Guma were drafted to the venue to cause confusion while politicians and thugs from other LGAs equally beseeched the venue and highjacked the exercise thereby preventing legitimate delegates from voting.
He also expressed optimism that the National Working Committee of the APC would do everything possible to ensure that the right thing is done for peace to reign in the party.
