The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has expressed dissatisfaction with governments of the southern states of Nigeria for failing to support activities of the agency in the various states unlike their northerncounterparts.
The Director, Inspectorate and Enforcement Unit (IEU) of NIMC, Mr. Elias Okafor made this known while speaking on the NIMC Nationwide Ecosystem Enrolment at a two-day Roundtable with Online Publishers, Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) taking place in Abuja on Thursday and Friday.
The Director made mention of some states in the North West like Kano, Jigawa as the those leading in the support for NIMC’s operations including the donation of solar -powered equipment to enhance their efficiency.
He further called on all stakeholders to as a matter of necessity help NIMC to make the job of data enrolment easy across the nation.
He expressed happiness that the Federal Government of Nigeria has done the needful by using the database of NIMC in its staff verification exercise in order to check the menace of ghost workers.
He said part of the challenges NIMC is facing especially outside the cities is electricity and silo databases.
He also warned Nigerians against trying to cut corners which has led to extortion in many case.
