Children Day: Kebbi Government to sanctions child rights violators

After a prolonged suspension for at least six years, Monday, Kebbi State held a symbolic Children Day celebration at Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi.

The Children Day which featured march past, debates and quiz competitions was attended by the deputy governor, Alhaji Umar Tafida, with over sixty participating schools across the state.

Earlier, the Kebbi State governor, Dr Nasir Idris, represented by his deputy, Umar Tafida outlined the primary responsibilities of the government to include creating safe environment for children, guarantee their rights to life and education.

Tafida noted that government must also inculcate discipline in children so as to be able to lead the nation well as leaders of tomorrow.

“We are ready to sanction any teacher or whoever who violates the rights of children be it education, social interactions or his human rights because it will meet stiff penalties”, he said.

Speaking further, he said as part of efforts by the state government to provide quality education, free and affordable, the state has employed over two thousand qualified teachers.

While assuring the rights of children in Kebbi state he admonished parents to compliment what the teachers are doing in schools by giving them moral training at home.

Halima Bande, the Commissioner of education, Kebbi state thanked governor for his efforts in education and the recruitment of new qualified teachers which she said will guarantee quality education for the children of the poor.

Army secondary school won march pass, while army day girls came first in debate, Kebbi capital college came first in football competition among other prizes won by children.
