Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has assured the masses of the state that his administration would always remain committed to transparency and accountability in governance, insisting that government will not be deterred by disgruntled politicians to mislead the public.
Alia who was reacting to a trending video whose content is meant to discredit the recent local government elections held last Saturday in a statement by his chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, Thursday in Makurdi, described the claims as misleading.
He explained that the video is only meant to redicule the government of Benue State and the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, describing the act as nothing more than an unfortunate attempt by desperate politicians to score cheap political points.
The governor noted that upon thorough review, it is clear that the video is an obvious stage- managed drama, orchestrated by those who seek to undermine his good image at all cost, adding that investigation has found no credible evidence linking content of the viral video to him or his administration.
He recalled that prior to Local Government polls credible sources informed his Government of underhand plans by some opposition elements to discredit the electoral process, insisting that the video in circulation appears to be one of such tactics to cast shadows over an election that was transparent and violent free exercise.
The governor who said his achievements should be celebrated by lovers of democracy and well meaning people of the state, rather than attempts to tarnish the image of his government, urged journalists, particularly staff of Arise TV whose station aired the misleading video to uphold the ethics of the profession.
