Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has pledged to construct a new 3,000-capacity multi-purpose hall for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in the state.

Sule made the pledge at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course for corps members posted to the state at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state on Tuesday.

The governor said he was aware of the scheme’s request for a bigger hall that will be adequate for activities on camp especially during the three weeks orientation exercises hence the pledge to construct a new 3,000 capacity multipurpose hall for the scheme.

“It is on this premise that I wish to inform you that I have already approved the commencement of works on the construction of a 3,000 capacity multipurpose hall; one befitting of the scheme and which would be adequate for all events on camp,” he said.

The governor then congratulated camp officials and the 2,154 corps members posted to the state for achieving a hitch-free orientation exercise.

He also urged the corps members to carry with them the sense of duty, the commitment to community and the passion for positive change wherever they are posted to.

He assured the corps members that Nasarawa state popularly called “Home of Solid Minerals” is also renown for its hospitality, cultural diversity and natural beauty.

“With its unique blend of cultures and traditions, the state offers you a canvas to paint your service year with meaningful experiences.

“Contribute wholeheartedly to the progress of the communities you would serve. Your service goes beyond mere duty. It is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of our state”, he added.

He also assured them of his administration’s statutory responsibility to the welfare of the corps members, their security and well-being.

Earlier, Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, Coordinator of the scheme in the state urged the corps members to approach the remainder of the service year with humility and a spirit of selflessness.

“Focus on making positive contributions to your host communities, serving as exemplary ambassadors of your families, the NYSC and our nation at your places of primary assignments”, he said.

He also cautioned them to embrace their postings with grace and resist the temptation to seek reassignment, but instead should settle in and begin to make a meaningful impact as they have been trained.

Jikamshi also informed the corps members that active engagement in their primary assignment and Community Development Service (CDS) is paramount and their dedication in that regard will influence their participation in the winding up and passing out parade at the end of the service year.

The NYSC state coordinator urged the corps members to use social media responsibly and also emphasized the prohibition against unauthorized journeys and nighttime travels.

He then appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for his unwavering support for the scheme and once again appealed for his intervention in the construction of a 3,000 capacity multipurpose hall within the camp premises.
