The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has promised to unveil a new general multipurpose card that is capable of serving as Automated Teller Machine, ATM, and other financial transactions.
Speaking during a 2-day Roundtable with Publishers of Online Newspapers in Nigeria, which was held in Abuja, the head of Corporate Communication of NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, said though date is not fixed for the launch and public presentation of the card, but very soon it would be done.
Adegoke said NIMC, through its Director-General, Engineer Abisoye Coker-Odusote, is already partnering with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and other commercial banks to make sure that the card would be used for financial transactions and other services.
He added that features of the card would be explained better before the launch.
According to him, the new general multipurpose card will be an improvement of the former one that was given to Nigerians.
NIMC frowned at some agencies especially the financial institutions that always asked for data instead of using the existing data of the individual applicant obtainable through the National Identification Number, NIN.
