Benue Police Command has disclosed that it has placed a ban on covering of motor vehicle and motorcycle plate numbers in the state, insisting that covering vehicle number plates is an offence and would not be allowed in the state.
State commissioner of police, Hassan Yabanet who made the disclosure in a statement said the practice has become increasingly prevalent in the state.
He noted with dissatisfaction that the scenario has posed a significant security treat to the state as criminals now take advantage of this practice to perpetuate crime and get away with it.
The commissioner’s order contained in the statement signed by the Commands Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Sewuese Anene yesterday in Makurdi, directed Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to impound such vehicles for investigation and prosecution.
CP, Yabanet in the statement advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles registration number plates remain clearly visible at all times while driving within the state to avoid any inconvenience that might be caused by the enforcement process.
He urged members of the public to unite and contribute to the promotion of public safety and the maintenance of law and order in Benue State.
