Ramadan: Over 6,136 indigent persons receives Zakat packages in Kebbi

No fewer than six thousand, one hundred and thirty six orphans, widows and divorcees carefully selected by Zakat committee, Tuesday, received food and cash from Zakat and Wakaf board in Kebbi.

Presenting the compulsory alms to the beneficiaries at the presidential lodge in Birnin Kebbi, the deputy governor, Senator Umar Tafida called on wealthy people in the state and country at large to sanitise their wealth by giving out the compulsory alms to the poor from every rich man.

Tafida said that the governor has ordered councils chairmen to set aside certain amount of money, monthly, to be saved in Zakat and Wakaf account to continuously help orphans and poverty exposed persons in the society.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the state chairman, Zakat and Wakaf Board, Asheik Umar Isah commended Governor Nasir Idris for reactivating the board which has been inactive for many years.

Isah added that the governor submitted his Zakat (alms) to the tune of thirty million naira.

“We thank the governor for reactivating the very important Zakat Board; former governors Senator Adamu Aliero and Atiku Bagudu for their support to the board”.

Giving the breakdown of beneficiaries, he said at least six thousand vulnerable persons from Yauri, Danko, Bagudo and Zuru each receive twenty thousand naira and bag of rice, while another eighty persons from the Birnin Kebbi received same items and cash.

The occasion was also attended by top government officials and Islamic clerics from Kebbi, Sokoto and beyond.
