The Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and Assattahir International Foundation, AIF, visited Kara Market in Sokoto to assess the damage caused by a devastating fire.
The visit was led by Sokoto SEMA Special Adviser Aminu Liman Bodinga.
The visit focused on evaluating the destruction and offering support to the affected market vendors.
Bodinga, along with key stakeholders including chairman of Kara market Timber/Wood Sellers Association and Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim, chairman of the Nail Sellers Association, toured the fire-affected areas.
The cause of the inferno is still under investigation, with authorities considering the possibility of a spark from charcoal used by blacksmiths.
During the visit, Hon. Bodinga conveyed heartfelt condolences from Governor Ahmed Aliyu to the victims, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting their recovery.
He assured the victims that a thorough damage assessment would be conducted, and necessary aid would be provided to help them rebuild their businesses.
Alhaji Maikatako, on behalf of the Kara Market Association, expressed gratitude for the state government’s swift response and empathized with them at this difficult period.
The Sokoto State Government has reiterated its commitment to assisting the victims and restoring normalcy to the market.
