Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has promised non-interference with activitiesAlia inaugurates BSIEC, promises non-interference with activities of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, for the body to conduct an all-inclusive election that would be transparent, free, fair and credible at the third tier of government.
The governor who made the promise, Thursday, while inaugurating members of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC, at the new banquet hall of government house Makurdi, described the ceremony as significant milestone in the journey of democracy at the grassroot in the state.
” You have been selected based on your non partisan parlance, your outstanding qualifications, integrity and unwavering commitment to democratic principles which are the core principles required for the survival of our thriving democracy both of you have been proven to be of no questionable integrity.
“This underscores the entire role the commission plays in laying a solid foundation for our democracy at the local government level.
“As you are entrusted with this responsibility to ensure the consolidation of democracy at the third tier of government,you should conduct a free, fair and credible election” Alia advised, stressing that the exercise if done properly would reflect the yearnings and aspirations of Benue people who have anxiously desired that their voices are heard through their votes.
While congratulating the new appointees on their well deserved appointments,the governor called on wwell-meaning eaning citizens of the state to join hands with BSIEC to ensure success of the democratic process at the third tier of government.
Responding on behalf of members, Chairman of BSIEC Dr John Chen, said they accepted the appointments with the deepest sense of humility, adding that the trust the governor found in them would never be abused having understood the yearnings and aspirations of Benue people.
