Armed Police personnel have taken over the Benue state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Makurdi.
Information available to NationsPride indicates that the Benue State chapter of the APC had scheduled a meeting slated at the secretariat for Friday, March 1 by 10 am.
The state publicity secretary of the party, Daniel Morgan Ihomon in a statement had quoted the embattled state Chairman, Comrade Austin Agada as inviting people for a post inaugural meeting with the executive director, Housing, Finance and Accounts Mathias Byuan.
NationsPride has gathered that while leadership of the party was inviting those concerned for the meeting and making arrangements, a circular came from Government House Makurdi signed by Paul Biam, Chief of Staff to the Governor on behalf of the Governor banning all political gathering.
On the day of the meeting serious looking police personnel as well as some youths whom a source that pleaded anonymity said were on ground to prevent anyone working against the interest of the governor who they argued is providing good governance.
They insisted that Governor Hyacinth Alia has started on a sound path and should be allowed to deliver divided of democracy to the people.
In an interview with journalists the state publicity secretary of the party, Daniel Ihomon assured that the meeting would be held, but at the time of filing this report nobody including journalists were granted access to the Secretariat.
Efforts of NationsPride to get information from security personnel stationed at the secretariat to know what exactly was the issue yielded no results as they declined comments.
Efforts to get reaction from the police public relations officer, PPRO SP Sewuese Anene at the time of filing this report failed.
