The executive director, Kebbi State Women Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, Comrade Nasir Idris has commended the wife of the Kebbi State governor, Hajiya Nasare Nasir Idris for her huge intervention in the fight against gender based violence in the state.
He made the commendation in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state during the flag-off of palliatives to vulnerable women and persons with disabilities performed by her, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
According to him, her efforts in stemming the menace of gender-based violence in the state have culminated in the establishments of special courts dedicated to try cases of GVB without any delay in the dispensation of justice to all victims regardless of their placement in the society.
The women rights champion added that to boost their operations in the state, Mrs. Idris also allocated a section at Kalgo Medical Centre as a sex assaults referral centre where victims can access proper medical care for free and an operational vehicle to cover the 21 local governments in the state.
“Hence our reason to commend her and show appreciation to her on behalf of the beneficiaries for encouraging us to do our work without any impediments”.
Nasir stated that to send warning to potential rapists or those in the habit of abusing the rights of their spouses, the special court has so far convicted over 50 persons for rape and other women rights abuses and still counting as the process is continuous till the state is rid of the scourge of GBV.
He appealed to parents to speak up by reporting such case wherever they happen as they are poised to ensure no rapist or women rights abuser escapes the law.
