Sokoto State government says it has taken proactive measures towards mitigating trans-boundary animal diseases in the state.
The state’s deputy governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, stated that at the
Flag-off ceremony of Trans-boundary Animal Diseases vaccination held at the main central Eid ground, Sokoto.
The deputy governor who stood in for the governor said the measure was in recognition of the threat posed to livestock sector and even to human health.
According to him, the state government has procured and allocated substantial number of assorted vaccines doses for animals vaccination programme across the state.
The statement by deputy governor’s Director of Press, Garba Muhammad also said Alhaji Idris Gobir said the proactive measure underscored the state government’s dedication to ensuring the health and wellbeing of livestock in the state.
He also announced that government is committed to upgrading the state veterinary clinic to a specialist hospital.
Alhaji Idris Gobir said about 144 veterinary doctors are in the state civil service adding that their competencies and energies can be utilised to drive development initiative.
Earlier, the state commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries Development Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Tureta thanked the state government for it commitment towards ensuring the good health of livestock in the state.
Alhaji Aliyu Tureta said government has procured adequate vaccination to cover all the 23 local government areas in the state.
In a vote of thanks, the permanent secretary of the ministry Alhaji Muslimu Adamu Gobir acknowledged government’s decision to reviving the vaccination exercise.
