A female cleric and former Amira of Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN, Kebbi State, Hajiya Hauwa’u Abubakar Zaki Danshame, has called on women in the state to stand on their feet by engaging in petty businesses to fend for themselves and to support their husbands, saying a jobless woman is a burden to her husband and society.
Speaking in her residence in Birnin Kebbi, on the commemoration of International Women Day, she urged them to invest the supports they got from wife of Kebbi State governor, Hajiya Nafisa Idris and wife of the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Hajiya Zainab Bagudu in profitable ventures.
A female cleric and former Amira of FOMWAN, Kebbi State, described Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris and Zainab Bagudu as champions of women in Kebbi State, and said that the two women have made positive impact on the lives of Kebbi women in terms of empowerment.
According to her, Mrs. Idris, since the inception of Governor Nasir Idris’s government has positively touched the lives of over two thousand women including orphans, widows and divorcees in both urban and rural areas in an empowerment drive which seeks to reduce poverty among women.
The female cleric explained that Zainab Bagudu has not relented in her efforts to give back to women and orphans as no fewer than two hundred homeless women with orphans were given benefiting accommodation at no cost with start-up capital to fend for themselves.
“Despite the fact that she is no longer the first lady, her positive impact on women is immeasurable because she has sustained the empowerment programme through collaboration with the wife of Kebbi governor, Nafisa Idris.
“Mrs. Idris’ fascinating character is her compassion for women with vascular vagina fistula where she provided foods and sanitary items with free drugs to hasten their healing.
“Nafisa also made it a habit to visit the mentally challenged school in Jega to provide food, clothing and social items to give them the sense of belonging, so today I celebrate her and her close ally Zainab Bagudu for championing the cause of women in Kebbi state in a special day like this”.
