Abductors of the chairman of Akwanga local government council in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Safiyanu Isah Andaha, alongside his friend, Adamu Umar Tanko, on New Year day at about 8:30pm have placed a demand of 50 million Naira ransom before they would regain freedom.
They were yesterday kidnapped along Adaha-Akwanga road in Akwanga local government area of the state.
A family source who pleaded anonymity, disclosed this to our correspondent this morning stating however that negotiations were ongoing between the family and the abductors.
Special Adviser to the Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Haruna Kassimu had yesterday confirmed the abduction of the council boss and one other at Ningo village January 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Police Command in Nasarawa State said it is investigating the abduction.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel told our correspondent in Lafia on Tuesday that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Nadada has mobilised personnel on a manhunt for the hoodlums and possible rescue of the chairman and his friend.
“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are currently on the trail of the kidnappers to ensure the release of the council chairman and the other victim”.
Nansel therefore urged members of the public, especially people from villages around the area, to provide the police with credible information that would lead to the rescue of the abducted and the arrest of the perpetrators.
