Agema emphaises why BIRS places priority on staff training

Acting Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Emmanuel Agema has stated that training and retraining of staff by organizations would improve the quality of service as well as ensure significant return on investment of such organisations, emphasizing the reason why BIRS has placed priority on training.

Speaking at a 3-day North Central regional training on tax investigation, audit and enforcement organized by Nasarawa State Government in collaboration with the Joint Tax Board, held in Lafia, Agema said Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, has sent 22 of its staff to the training for them to build capacity in the area of tax administration.

Agema in a statement signed by his media assistant, Jacintha Bernard, released in Makurdi, further explained that his commitment to staff training stemmed from his flare for professionalism and result-oriented mindset.

He noted that the need to optimally maximize internally generated revenue in the state has propelled the board under his watch to be conscious of training the staff for better results and urged participants to pay attention in order to maximize benefits.

The acting Chairman of BIRS, according to the statement, revealed that sometime last December, the service organised the first Annual Staff Retreat in the state capital to improve the knowledge and skills of its staff, adding that since the coming on board of his administration, there has been periodic in- house trainings to keep abreast workers on tax matters and administration, promising to continue to do his best to improve revenue generation in the state.
