All Benue LGAs charged to participate fully in 2024 Governor’s Cup

Benue Governor’s Cup to Feature Men and Women’s Categories with Separate Prizes- Sports Commissioner

Participating coordinators from local government areas in this year’s governor’s soccer cup competition in Benue State have been charged to ensure that every council ward in their local government areas are represented in the competition.

Commissioner for sports, youth and creativity in Benue State, Terkimbi Kyange, gave the charge when draws for the competition were conducted ahead of commencement of the competition in Makurdi.

He announced that this year’s governor’s cup would be played by the 23 local government teams separated into four groups to play in four centers of Gboko, Vandeikya, Oju and Otukpo respectively.

Kyange expressed appreciation to Governor Hyacinth Alia for his commitment towards sports development in the state, especially by approving funds for the revival of the governor’s cup, expressing optimism that the state football association would do a thorough job to ensure that this year’s governor’s cup is the best edition.

In a remark, chairman of Lobi Stars FC, Philip Nongu, expressed appreciation to the governor for reviving the governor’s cup, and charged participating teams to adhere strictly by the rules as a mark of appreciation to the governor for reviving the competition eight years of absence.

On his part, chairman, Benue State Football Association, Paul Edeh, commended Governor Alia for demonstrating love for sports especially the game of football.

He revealed that this year’s governor’s cup competition would feature both men and women categories with each having different prices for grabs and advised teams to feature eligible players to avoid sanction, pointing out that the competition would identify talents for the benefit of such youths.
