APC, PDP trade words over Kebbi State council elections’ turnout

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kebbi state has rejected the claim of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the just concluded local council polls witnessed low turnout.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the ruling party, Alhaji Isah Assalafy and made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, described the claim as worthless and cry of wounded loin gasping for breath, saying the statement is dismissed as figments of PDP’s imagination.

“The PDP having failed in their call to the people of Kebbi to stay away from polling units has resorted to cheap claim of low turnout , which the eligibility voters defied and came out enmass and voted the APC as evidently seen in all the polling units across the state.

“We wondered why the party who opted out of the polls will want to disenfranchise thousand of voters in the state even as holistic and concrete arrangements have been put in place for peaceful and transparent elections with a watertight security within the nooks and cranny of the state.

APC said Governor Nasir Idris and President Bola Tinubu-led governments have made indelible marks in terms of welfare of citizens and infrastructure which was responsible for the mass turnout of voters during the conducts of local councils polls in the state.

Assalafy appealed to people of the state to remain peaceful, law-abiding and to resist attempt by the opposition party PDP to derail democracy at the grassroots.

“We urge the PDP to engage in proper investigation instead resorting to fictitious claim to discredit people’s government led by Idris and Tinubu at the centre”.
