The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Kebbi state, has lashed out at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over their claims that Kebbi state governor, Dr. Nasir Idris does not handover mantle of leadership to the deputy governor whenever he travels.
Dismissing the claim, the state imagemaker of APC Kebbi state, Alhaji Isah Assalafy, said that the opposition is out of touch with the realities on ground and their malicious allegations has fallen short of constitutional proof, which is therefore dismissed and described as dead on arrival.
Citing the constitutional provision for governor to relinquish power to his deputy, he quoted some sections of the constitution to include section 190(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended which stipulated that the governor should exercise his executive powers in person.
However, “In section 193(1) delegation of power to his deputy or commissioners to take charge of government business and\or departments is at the discretion of the governor for the opposition to take note to stop their unwarranted, unsolicited, false and baseless claim.
“It is gratifying to note that, the duo in one year have enjoyed frank, cordial and just relationship as there was no one time when the deputy governor, Umar Tafida had cause to complaint of being marginalised by the governor.
“Let me use this medium to admonish the opposition PDP to desist from faceless media attack on Kebbi governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, even as the party listens to reasonable and constructive criticism”, he said.
Recall that, the opposition PDP in Kebbi state, had asked the governor to relinquish power to his deputy since he is among Muslims faithful that would perform hajj 2024 at the Holy Land of Mecca.
