The former governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, Bafarawa has injected over one billion Naira into the newly inaugurated Bafarawa Foundation. He made this known during the formal inauguration of the foundation tagged “Giving Back”.
He said the reason for initiating the foundation is to assist the less privileged individuals across the state and the country in general.
Bafarawa at 70 years of age, felt a greater pull towards people with the desire to ensure that whatever gaps he may have created, consciously or unconsciously in his relationship with the people while he was in office.
Bafarawa said, “Some may call this atonement, but I prefer to see it as an act of reciprocity. I want to give back to the people the goodwill and love they showed to me.”
He said this giving back philosophy of his is more auspicious and compelling than now that the people are passing through hard times occasioned by the harsh economic climate in this country.
“It is against this background I have decided to make available the sum of one billion naira for the welfare and wellbeing of the people in the state.
“The management of this fund has been entrusted to a committee that I personally set up and headed by Alhaji Lawal Maidoki who is known throughout the country for his acumen, experience and honesty especially distribution of Zakkat and Waqafi”.
The former governor further said he had tremendously served the state diligently especially on the field of roads construction.
