Benue State Executive Council has approved the sum of N30.2 billion as counterpart funding for the construction of five additional roads across the three senatorial zones of the state.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, who announced council decision while briefing journalists after the state executive council meeting held Monday at Government House Makurdi, said roads to be constructed include; Awajir/ Oju, Igumale/Agatu and Obagaji/Okokolo and Agagbe with Adikpo/Koti- yough/Vandeikya, Ushongo/Hegha respectively, disclosing that Local Government Areas where the roads cut across will provide the remaining 40 percent.
Alia represented at the briefing by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, also announced that the sum of N567 million has been approved as compensation for members of Mbagwa and Mbawa communities of Makurdi Local Government Area, whose land have been taken over by government and allocated to the federal government for the construction of a federal housing project in the state.
The governor also disclosed that council approved the establishment of Benue State Signage and Advertising Agency, charged with the responsibility to manage and control outdoor advertising and signage across the state to ensure the visual tapestry of the state is appealing as well as upholds the highest standards of safety and aesthetics that will bequeath a responsible environment.
Governor Alia also told newsmen that council approved the domestication of the Disability Bill 2024, which has given PDWs equal rights and privileges in the scheme of things as well as to sanction anyone that discriminates them, while a minute silence was observed in honor of the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, described as a friend of the state.
