Acting Executive Chairman Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Emmanuel Agema has called on taxpayers in the state to emulate the same maturity and patriotism exhibited by members of Benue Taxi Drivers Union who demonstrated genuine willingness to pay their taxes.
Agema who made the call when he received a delegation from the Benue Taxi Drivers Union led by its president, Martins Angwe, at the revenue house in Makurdi, expressed appreciation to members of the union for willingly registering interest voluntarily to support the present administration by fulfilling their constitutional obligation to the state and added that he was proud of members of the group.
The BIRS boss who said payment of taxes must be collected by staff of the service through Point of Sales, POS machines, pledged his unflinching cooperation to the union at all times and as a mark of appreciation ordered that free Tax Identification Numbers be immediately issued to all registered drivers of the union.
In a speech, Comrade Angwe said they were at the BIRS headquarters to register their satisfaction with what Governor Hyacinth Alia has done so far with taxpayers’ money and to indicate their interest to commence payment of Personal Income Tax, PIT, as a way of support for the good work of the Alia administration, adding that what the government has done is visible in the massive projects being executed.
