The multi stakeholders committee set up by Kebbi governor,Dr Nasir Idris has began a wide range of consultations with critical stakeholders from Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), electricity professionals and members of the public to chart ways on possible steady power supply in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, shortly after their meeting, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Usman Gwandu revealed that the committee is engaging top officials of KEDCO to evolve a framework workable to both parties on how to reach a common ground where consumers will get value for bill paid and to ensure as well that customers do not shortchange the company by defaulting in their payments.
Gwandu added that the power committee is billed by next week to submit interim report to Kebbi State Government on their findings based on the engagements so far with critical stakeholders.
He said that to simplify the committee’s work, they have created sub-committees comprising of energy professionals and civil society organizations.
” We have just two weeks to submit our report to Kebbi State Government Government, therefore due to time constraints, we decided to have sub-committees to speed up our work to ensure in no distant time power supply in Kebbi State will normalise”.
He commended Governor Idris for promulgating the committee, saying his action was borne out of compassion and his desire to ensure steady power supply for economic growth in rhe state.
