The Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, on Wednesday, in Lafia, the state capital ordered proactive deployment of police operatives as well as the vigilante group members to the state’s boundary with the Federal Capital Territory.
This is as fear and tension continue to grip resident of the state ahead of the impending Supreme Court judgement in an appeal filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, David Ombugadu and the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the March 18, 2023 governorship election.
CP Nadada in a statement signed and issued by the Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Ranham Nansel, the deployment becomes necessary in view of the recent security issues being experienced across the state especially around the border with FCT and other neighbouring states.
“We need to be proactive and ensure adequate deployment of police operatives and vigilante to identify areas bordering the FCT to prevent issues of insecurity around our state from escalating.
“Furthermore, area commanders of New Karu, Keffi, and Nasarawa and all divisional police officers under them are to mobilise their personnel and Vigilante, partner with the traditional rulers, community leaders and sister security agencies in order to dominate the areas.
“You have to be civil to members of the public, as no laxity and unprofessional conduct shall be tolerated. Residents are to be rest assured that the police command is working tirelessly to provide an impregnable security architecture in the state, ensure that their safety is being looked after.
“To complement the security agencies, residents must be vigilant and report suspicious activities or emergency to the police and other sister agencies to serve you better”, the statement added.
