Tensions are rising in Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency as Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, the 2023 Labour Party House of Representatives candidate, announced plans to petition the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, over what he described as the “persistent and unconstitutional interference” of Hon. Chinedu Ogah in his constituency’s political affairs.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abakaliki, Ezeh accused Ogah, who represents Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, of overstepping his mandate by meddling in the political affairs of a constituency he does not represent.
According to Ezeh, Ogah’s repeated interventions have heightened tensions in Izhiland and disrupted ongoing reconciliation efforts among stakeholders.
Ezeh cited Ogah’s alleged role in securing bail for two suspects accused of threatening his life as the latest example of political overreach.
“This is not the first time Hon. Ogah has inserted himself into matters that concern only the Izhi people,” Ezeh said.
“Why is it always him whenever harm is plotted against me? Why does he meddle in Izhi politics and sow crisis in Izhiland?” he asked.
The Labour Party chieftain further alleged that Ogah’s actions in securing bail for the suspects could amount to obstruction of justice, potentially undermining the ongoing police investigation.
While no official documents were presented to substantiate these claims, Ezeh insisted that Ogah’s interventions were inappropriate and beyond the scope of his legislative duties.
He announced that he would submit a formal petition to the Speaker, accusing Ogah of abuse of privilege and deliberate interference in constituency matters.
“No National Assembly member is above the law. If Hon. Ogah believes he can use his office to shield suspects or intimidate political opponents, he will soon discover that our democracy has checks and consequences,” Ezeh declared.
Ogah in a press release by his media team has denied all allegations, calling Ezeh’s claims unfounded and inflammatory. The Lawmaker emphasized that he has never supported or condoned any threats against Ezeh and insisted that his involvement was purely humanitarian.
“The threat of petition is unnecessary and misguided. Dr. Ezeh is entitled to his political battles, but he should not manufacture enemies where none exist. However, if he insists on dragging me into controversy, we shall leave no stone unturned in defending my reputation,” Ogah said.
Dr. Ezeh had previously accused Ogah of requesting administrative bail for Felix Okemini (aka Jango) and Sunday Ogbonnia (aka Bakassi), who allegedly threatened his life and defamed his character.
While Ezeh did not object to the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process proposed to resolve the matter, he questioned why Ogah was inserting himself into Izhi politics.
Local leaders are urging calm and calling on security agencies to conduct investigations without interference. Political analysts in Ebonyi State suggest the dispute reflects growing rivalries and shifting alliances as the 2027 elections approach.
Ezeh warned that if the ADR window closes without sincere engagement, he will pursue further legal action. His legal team is preparing a petition to the Speaker, alleging criminal meddling, obstruction of justice, and misuse of legislative privilege.
