A fire outbreak at a diaper factory in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government area of Anambra, on Wednesday destroyed property worth millions of naira.
Mr Chukwudi Chiketa, the Fire Chief, Anambra Fire Service, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha.
Chiketa revealed that the quick intervention of men of the fire service prevented it from spreading to an adjourning gas plant in the vicinity.
He said although some buildings were affected, firefighters were able to contain it from causing further damages to the company that deals in baby diapers.
He noted that there was no casualty recorded, adding that the cause of the fire was traced to a suspected explosion from the company.
An eyewitness, Obinna Okoye said the fire which started around 5:30a.m., took neighbourhood by surprise as residents were still fast asleep when the incident occurred.
Okoye lauded the firefighters for their prompt intervention, which he said helped to prevent the fire from spreading to buildings around. (NAN)
