Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, yesterday departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi, said Alia was selected by President Bola Tinubu to be part of the presidential delegation to the meeting, which takes place from September 21 to 28.
The statement further revealed that the assembly provides a platform for world leaders to discuss interconnected global challenges, adding that the Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima will lead the Nigerian delegation on President Tinubu’s behalf.
Kula said during his trip, Governor Alia will participate in crucial sideline events and bilateral meetings that will greatly benefit Benue State.
According to the chief press secretary, the seions will focus on leveraging technology and partnerships to accelerate sustainable development at the subnational government level, describing the UN General Assembly as a significant gathering of world leaders, and stated that Governor Alia’s attendance underscores Benue State’s commitment to global cooperation and development.
