The Kebbi state Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has establish the Commission for Persons with Disability in the state.
During BBC Hausa feedback program “A fada a cika” held in Birnin Kebbi on January 1, 2024, the Governor made a commitment to address the needs of persons with disabilities.
Notably, an executive bill has been presented to the state House of Assembly for ratification and subsequent signing into law by the Governor.
In response to the demand for the appointment of some individuals with disabilities as special advisers, the Governor has fulfilled this promise by approving the appointment of five as special advisers within 48 hours of making the commitment.
According to the Commissioner for Information inn Kebbi state, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, “I extend my congratulations to all persons with disabilities in the state for this significant achievement. I also call upon the people of Kebbi state to further cooperate with the new government, which is only seven months into office, so that together, the state can expedite progress towards the next level of its aspirations.
“It is crucial for the community to support and collaborate with the government to ensure that the needs of all citizens, including persons with disabilities, are given due consideration and addressed promptly.
“Highlighting the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and taking swift and proactive steps to address these issues is indeed praiseworthy. The commitment of the state government to working closely with and for the benefit of persons with disabilities sets a positive example for inclusive governance and community engagement”, the commissioner emphasized.
