The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kebbi State, has received more than 1,500 defectors from of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across Zuru Emirate.
Receiving the defectors in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, said if even Governor Nasir Idris had only constructed the Koko-Dabai-Zuru road it would have been enough for the people of Zuru Emirate to return him for a second term.
Kana-Zuru added that the Governor did not stop at road construction, but has also renovated numerous health facilities, such as primary healthcare centres, and hospitals, as well as schools and other infrastructure across the state.
The chairman assured the defectors that they would be treated equally like existing members, emphasizing that the party does not discriminate between new and old members.
“Whatever we do as a party, we will involve everybody, regardless of whether they are new or old members. I want you people to feel at home, because you have made the right choice,” he said.
Explaining the reason behind his defection, Alhaji Lawali Arzika Riba, former PDP candidate for Kebbi State House of Assembly, said he was inspired by the developmental strides being executed by the Governor across the state.
“I am also impressed by the coordinated efforts of both the state and the federal government in collaboration with security agencies, which led to the rescue of the abducted schoolgirls of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.
“It takes a courageous leader to swiftly put the machinery in place to achieve such mission. Kaura deserves special commendation,” Arzika Riba stated.
While appreciating the Governor for his benovelence, Arzika Riba, accused some of the Governor’s lieutenants for not doing enough to support him in achieving his goals through goodwill and selfless service.
On their part, two other defectors , Binta Bena and Hajiya Maryam from Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, said their decision to join the APC was motivated by the exemplary leadership and achievements of Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.
They declared that the PDP no longer held influence in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area and pledged to deliver block votes to the APC in forthcoming elections.
