Kebbi Customs PRO assaults journalist, threaten to lock him up

Kebbi State Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Customs Service, MT Salisu, on Thursday verbally assaulted a journalist, Haruna Aliyu and even threatened to lock him up for showing up at a press conference he was invited for.

Haruna on Wednesday received invitation vie whatsapp from the assistant public relations officer of the command, one Mustapha, to attend the press briefing scheduled to hold Thursday at Kebbi Customs Area Command.

The verbal assaults began when MT Salisu sighted the Correspondent and asked him who invited him, when he earlier gave his assistant instructions to invite Malam Haruna.

“You said you won’t come here again, what are you doing here? I will lock you up”.

At the same time he ordered his assistant to walk Haruna out of the Command, if not that Daily Trust correspondent walked up to intervene, he would have hit me.

Narrating his ordeal, Haruna Aliyu said, “My last engagement with Kebbi Customs Command was when they invited us to cover the handing over ceremony of their former boss, Earnest Iheanacho ihejirike, where I complained on how he treated journalist.

“I dont like the way you treat us, please do not invite me again to any of your function”

Haruna observed that this invitation was meant to humiliate him despite covering activities of Kebbi Customs Command for many years.

He warned that should anything happen to him, MT Salisu, Kebbi State Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Customs Service should be held responsible.

NationsPride Media called the phone number of Mustapha, the officer who sent the invitation to hear from him what transpired, between his boss and the journalist, but he did not pick the calls as at the time of filing this report.
