Kebbi governor approves N1.2bn to boost education

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris has approved the release of about N1.2 billion for critical projects in the education sector, reaffirming his administration’s strong commitment to quality education and youth development.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. Isah Abubakar Tunga, at a press conference held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, which was attended by directors of the ministry.

According to the Commissioner, the projects approved by Governor Idris include the renovation of Abdulsalam Nagimbana, Bush House and Emir Haruna Rasheed Students’ hostels at the State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, at the cost of ₦230,205,981.96.

The Governor also approved the procurement of essential equipment for the take-off of the newly established College of Midwifery, Ambursa, Birnin Kebbi.

Facilities acquired include Library, Demonstration Room, ICT, Sick Bay, Physical Sciences Laboratory and Microbiology Laboratory, at the cost of ₦251,525,065.00.

In addition, Governor Idris directed the payment of outstanding registration fees for Kebbi State students studying across the country for the 2024/2025 academic session, amounting to ₦695,936,660.00.

Hon. Tunga remarked that this landmark intervention was a demonstration of Governor Idris’ unwavering dedication to expanding access to quality education and strengthening Kebbi State’s tertiary institutions to compete favourably with their counterparts nationwide.

He made it clear that education remained a long-term investment and the foundation of sustainable societal progress, adding that no resource is too great when it comes to safeguarding the future of the younger generation.

The Commissioner further extended appreciation to the Governor on behalf of the Ministry for his timely and people-centered intervention.
