A civil society organisation, in Kebbi State, Association for Peace and Good Governance, has hit back at the Senator representing Kebbi South district, Senator Garba Musa Maidoki over his statement on the floor of Nigerian Senate accusing Kebbi governor, Dr Nasir Idris of supporting the Nigeria Army with five hundred million to fight insecurity in the state.
Reacting on behalf of the civil society organisation, the general secretary of the organisation, Comrade Usman Muhammed Anache, described the claim as improper and ill-timed saying what the senator did at the floor of the Senate was a display of inexperience and ingratitude .
He maintained that it is on record that the security situation in his constituency and the state has significantly improved as over affected 350 villages have returned to their farms to continue with food production.
“The senator’s statement could well mean that he wants his people to return to IDP camps to use it as campaign tool like he did when he was contesting for Kebbi South senatorship. We admonish him to borrow a leaf from experienced senators like Senator Adamu Aliero and former senate leader Dr Yahaya Abdullahi on how to play clean opposition not to resort to cheap blackmail “.
Anache added that due to prevailing insecurity in Northwest, Zamfara and Sokoto created private security guards while Kebbi decided to use the army, police and other security agencies to fund them to fight insecurity which has yielded positive results .
The group urged other senators in the state to ignore the senator saying the security of Kebbi state is far above any political party because lives of Kebbi is more important than political difference.
