Some patients at the Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja have cried out over safety of their lLivesives Livesas the hospital has been without electricity, which has equally affected water supply at the healthcare facility since Wednesday, and people are unable to receive quality healthcare services.
According to someone who went to donate blood, the hospital could not take his blood sample because there was no light in the entire hospital to screen it.
A caregiver in the hospital said the life of his wife is at risk, because she needed blood desperately after surgery was conductedon her, but the hospital could not take blood from his neighbour who came to donate for her.
He said right in his presence, a woman was wheeled into the ambulance and was taken to Wuse District Hospital as Asokoro could not handle her case due to electricity. And that people were seen taken their loved ones away to avoid casualty.
The caregivers called on relevant authorities to do the needful as lives of patients should not be in danger for lack of basic amenities.
One of them asked: “How much will it cost the government to install solar-powered electricity at all hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory. It’s not about building roads? it’s also about making lives safe.
“I was ashamed to be called a Nigerian on that day, because patients were living the hospital in drone. The only light I saw at the hospital was at the maternity ward, which I learnt was solar-powered. Why can’t the solar light go round the hospital to make the facility safe for the people?” The eyewitness queried.
Our Correspondent put a call across to the hospital’s official line and a lady who responded said, “Electricity has been off-and-on and our generator is faulty”.
