Major bridge collapses in Birnin Kebbi over downpour

Following consistent heavy downpour in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State capital and its environs, a portion of bride at Dukk River in Birnin Kebbi has caved in disconnecting commuters from Argungu and Kangiwa towns who ply the bride on daily basis.

According to Commissioner for Works, Engineer Abdullahi Umar Faruk Muslim, who confirmed the bridge collapse advised motorists to stay off the road for their safety.

Muslims assured the affected towns, a quick response from his ministry who will in no distant time fix the failed portion of the bride, which has for now halted movements and economic activities between the state capital and those towns who connect through the bride.

“We are aware of the bride portion collapse and because of its value as the economic link between the state capital and environs. We have risen to the occasion, my teams of engineers will fix it and return it to public use”.

Recall that Kebbi State is among the states marked by NIMET as red zones as such the state government under the leadership of Dr Nasir Idris has activated flood defence mechanism to ensure little or no damage from the envisage flood.
