The wife of Kebbi governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Idris, in her efforts to rid the streets of Kebbi state of street begging has offered to feed over 500 almajiris through Almajiri Support Initiative; non-governmental organisations operating in Birnin Kebbi.
She made the pledge in Birnin Kebbi during the distribution of palliatives to almajiris, disable and vulnerable organised by kebbi State Health Contributory Scheme (KECHEMA).
According to her, neglect of almajiris and the disable by the society exposes them to all kinds of social vices which could escalate to something else hence the reason to collaborate with the NGO to help in feeding them, for them to leave the streets.
Idris noted that funds will be made available every month for their feeding and other necessary assistance required to give them sense of belonging.
Responding, the chairman of the NGO, Alhaji Shehu Umar appreciated the wife of the governor for the kind gesture saying the feeding programme will in no small measure reduce almajiri from streets begging.
While acknowledging other contributors, Umar said that Jaafar Augie, the executive secretary of KECHEMA has been of help through cash donations and enrollment of almajiris on free health insurance and host of others who contributed to what the NGO is doing.
He pledged to feed the almajiris and train them on various skills to make them self-reliant.
