Benue State governor, Reverend Father, Hyacinth Alia has reassured the masses of Benue that his administration would continue to prioritize service to the people rather than patronize few people, insisting that Benue agenda is much bigger than that of any individual.
Governor Alia who gave the assurance while reacting to critics from the opposition in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Monday, in Makurdi, argued that since taking over office in 2023, his administration has demonstrated capacity and unwavering commitment to foster development, the needed peace and social welfare, a development he noted has rebuilt trust as well as injected renewed sense of hope and progress across the state.
He said his administration having viewed agriculture and food security as key areas of focus, has supported farmers through improved inputs, mechanized equipment, and market access, adding that government has distributed farm implements and modern irrigation systems to boost local food supply which in addition has generated income, and created employment opportunities for thousands.
Alia disclosed that his government has done well in the area of infrastructural development, with significant investments in road construction, rehabilitation, and expansion with the state capital, Makurdi, undergoing transformation, with improved drainage systems, streetlights, and public utilities.
He said his administration has prioritized peacebuilding and security, introducing community policing initiatives and collaborating with local leaders to resolve conflicts, stressing that youth empowerment and education have also received attention, with scholarships, skills acquisition programs, and vocational training creating opportunities for young people to contribute to society.
The governor who promised to uphold transparency and accountability in handling issues of governance stated that he would continue to rely on testimonies of Benue people on the streets rather than those of few people as the state is bigger than any individual.
He assured that he will continue to fix his eyes on the goal post with a burning desire to deliver more democratic dividends in the remaining six years of his administration, promising to make those who voted him as governor proud but urged Benue people to keep praying for him and his administration to enable him succeed.
