The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of one of its committed media veterans, Malam Bashir Lawan Gumel, who at one time served at Freedom Radio Dutse, Jigawa Station.
According to NUJ, his untimely death is a painful loss not only to the Freedom Radio family, but to the entire media community in Jigawa State and beyond, because he was known for his passion, professionalism, and relentless commitment to public service through journalism and public affairs.
“He was indeed a colleague to be proud of, and a journalist who upheld the ethics of the profession with dignity and courage.
“At a time when the role of the media in fostering peace, development, and accountability is most needed, his absence leaves a vacuum that will be deeply felt.
“On behalf of the entire NUJ family in Jigawa State, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, friends, colleagues at Freedom Radio, and all who were touched by his work and kindness.
“May Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest and give those he left behind the strength to bear this irreparable loss”, NUJ said.
