Onyeka Onwenu slumps, confirmed dead during music performance

Mrs. Onyeka Onwenu, a former executive director/chief executive officer of the National Centre for Women Development and also a former chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture has been reported dead at the age of 72 years.

The Nigerian music legend was said have slumped at a birthday party where she was performing and was rushed to the Reddington Hospital in Lagos State when she was confirmed dead Tuesday night.

The iconic Onwenu came from from Arondizuogu, in Ideato North, Imo State, but was raised in Port Harcourt, River State.

She had worked with the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, among other outfits, leaving indelible footprints as a songwriter, actress, human rights and social activist, journalist and politician.
