There was pandemonium on Tuesday in Abuja, the nation’s capital as the popular Wuse Market went aflame leading to a sudden closure of economic activities.
Presence of policemen at the scene further led to escalation of the confusion as they continued shooting sporadically in the air and firing teargas to scare people away.
Apart from the policemen who barricaded some sections of the market, men of the Fire Service were also seen making frantic effort to put out the fire and return the situation under control.
Some vehicles in the car park have been burnt already. People inside the market are also seen forcing their ways out by scaling the perimeter fence.
Wuse Market is one of the busiest markets within the centre of Abuja where thousands of people engage in different business activities.
