Press Freedom: NUJ honours Gov Alia with Advocate of The Masses, Human Rights Award

Benue State governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia at the weekend was honoured with a prestigious award of Advocate of the Masses and Human Rights at an event to mark this year’s Press Freedom and Good Governance award night and dinner organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abuja.

Chief Press Secretary to the Benue Governor, Tersoo Kula in a statement said the event took place at the African Hall of Barcelona Hotels International, Abuja.

He quoted the Union to have said its searchlight for the award caught Governor Alia as a result of his resolve to give priority attention to the yearnings and aspirations of Benue masses above other considerations as well as his determination to fulfill his covenant with the people.

Kula in the statement further recalled that it is the second time Governor Alia would be recognized by the watchdogs of the society through another award for his steering leadership qualities as well as his outstanding performance as the Executive Governor of Benue State.

According to the chief press secretary, Alia had won the award of the Governor of the year 2023, during the 16th edition of Leadership Conference, organized by Leadership Newspaper alongside his Borno counterpart, Prof. Babagana Zulum.

The statement commended organizers of both the 2023 Governor of the year and the Advocate of the Masses and Human Rights award, and congratulated the governor for this well-deserved feat, adding that it would spur him to do more.
