The senator representing Nasarawa West district of Nasarawa State, Aliyu Ahmed Wadada, has paid the WAEC fees of more than seven hundred secondary school students across the senatorial zone amounting to twenty five million naira
The Chairman, Aliyu Wadada Education Foundation, Ismaila Sallau, disclosed this during the presentation of WAEC fees to students at their respective local government areas.
Presenting a cash sum of thirty three thousand, six hundred naira (33,600) each to the said numbers of the students from Keffi, Karu, Kokona, Nasarawa and Toto local government areas, Sallau, said the gesture, was to cushion the effects of hardship parents go through in sponsoring their children in schools.
According to him, 134 students were selected from each of the five local government areas based on merit, charging the students to reciprocate the effort of the senator by studying hard to enable them earn another scholarship to tertiary institutions just as he cautioned school principals against misusing the money.
On his part, Chairman, Senator Wadada Campaign Council, Danladi Madaki Usher, revealed that the disbursement of the WAEC fees to students was in continuation of Senator Wadada’s quest to provide sound education to the less privileged in the society, adding that the students were chosen from all the electoral wards in Western zone.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Dean, Postgraduate Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, Processor Usman Shehu Umar, applauded Wadada’s commitment towards promoting education, describing it as the best legacy a politician is required to perform, calling on others to emulate him.
Speaking on behalf of the school principals, the Nasarawa State ANCOPPS Chairman, Christopher Ogiri Ode, appreciated Senator Wadada, for the gesture, saying some parents were not able to pay WAEC or NECO fees for their children, but the senator has complimented their efforts.
