Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved the establishment of ICT Development Agency in Sokoto State.
He stated this at the launching of Digital and Technical Skills Training to 10,000 youth in the state held at the conference hall of Command Guest Inn, Sokoto.
He said already, the state Attorney General has been directed to submit the draft law to that effect.
Director Press to the Deputy Governor, Garba Muhammad, in a statement said the governor further said a plea was also made to the State House of Assembly to give the draft accelerated attention.
Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu reiterated the state government’s commitment to continue to lunch such programmes to enable all ministries, departments and agencies to be fully involved into all the ICT-driven initiatives.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed, he explained that the state was the first to establish Ministry for Innovation and Digital Economy.
This he said was aimed at ensuring that the state is not left behind on issues related to ICT.
In a welcome address, the state commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Alhaji Bashir Ummarun Kwabo, said the training was organized by the ministry with the state government’s support.
Alhaji Kwabo said the training would be conducted in batches; physically and virtually.
According to him, the training which has adequate representation of women would equip the participants with technical support and mentorship.
He used the opportunity to appreciate the support, commitment and political will of the state government in digital economy.
