Sokoto State Steering Committee for the implementation of the UNDP-Preventative Action Facility Project have been enjoined to be committed in the discharge of their responsibilities.
State Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir made the plea while inaugurating members of the two committees held at the deputy governor’s conference hall, Government House, Sokoto.
Alhaji Idris Gobir said this would ensure the implementation of the programme successfully.
He reminded them that UNDP has mapped out guidelines for the implementation of the programme and stressed the need to follow them to achieve the desired goal.
The deputy governor who is the main supervisor of the programme said four ministries and representatives of various security outfits are included in the running of the programme.
According to the Director of Press to the Deputy Governor, Garba Muhammad, the state ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Welfare would coordinate the programme.
The Deputy governor further said other ministries involved are Women and Children Affairs, Budget and Economic Planning as well as that of Youth and Sports Development.
Alhaji Idris Gobir explained that the steering committee would be conducting meetings with two states of Zamfara and Katsina involved in the programme.
Similarly, the Technical committee serves as local one and would be conducting its meetings on monthly basis.
The programme he said was aimed at building cross boarder synergy among North-Western states and strengthening boarder security with collaboration among the Boarder states.
The Deputy governor said the programme which is being funded by German government would also build confidence in communities affected by conflicts in North-Western region of the county.
Earlier, the state commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Social Welfare, Malam Ya’u Mohammed Danda, said the programme would no doubt assist in improving the living standard of the benefitting communities.
